I think it's simply a matter of opinion, we also have spotlights in the living/dining room! There are two circles with 8 spotlights each, which can be switched as 2x4. A friend who is an electrician advised us against a dimmable version, as dimmers and LEDs often don't really work well together and there are more frequent failures. We haven't regretted it!

In the dining area, there is additionally a homemade lamp hanging over the table made from a driftwood branch with a textile cable and bulbs with porcelain sockets. In the living room area, there is also the ceiling outlet above the living room table, but by now we have an arc lamp there. That way you can achieve everything from cozy to really bright!

And don't you notice the discrepancy? Spotlights and well lit, that's a contradiction.

Spotlights are used as auxiliary lighting to accentuate something.

As already recommended, draw in furniture etc., everything, and also the other lighting. It may be a matter of taste, but when would one want full illumination in the living room? Currently, we have a track system on the ceiling in the living room (which I equate to your spots), one ceiling outlet, small floor lamps with indirect lighting. Since we started planning our build two years ago, I have paid attention to when what is turned on. The expensive track system used the least, in fact almost never. Actually only when we are hunting mosquitoes or someone has dropped an earring. All other cases are illuminated with what I consider to be the cozier options. But it may indeed be a matter of taste.

I don't see it that way! If you choose spots with the appropriate beam angle, you can wonderfully illuminate a room. Of course, it may also be a matter of taste, but in my opinion, spots or LED panels are indeed great for that. However, I would of course additionally plan other light sources to cover a broad spectrum.

Apples and oranges. Exactly. LED panels are great for area lighting. But panels are also the complete opposite of spotlights, by definition.

In our new (2018) apartment, we deliberately almost completely avoided spots and have only regretted it in the bathroom so far. We only installed spots directly above the kitchen island. Everything is dimmable, etc..... these spots were insanely expensive compared to all other lamps and are practically never used, rather the additional normal lamp, which is also on the ceiling in the middle of the kitchen. Therefore, I would also advise reconsidering it. I haven't found spot lighting particularly nice for a long time... If spot lighting, then in small/filigree fixtures. We have something like that in the hallway. There we have several normal ceiling outlets, but then lamps with a spot in them.

It even looks very high-quality despite the low price. There are also others with adjustable spots, etc...
If I had to do it again, I would also use them above the kitchen island. It just looks nicer than those boring spots.
