Hello dear ones,
my brother-in-law wants to convert his attic. The goal is to set up 2 children's rooms for his grandchildren. The "old ones" are currently moving to the ground floor and the young couple is taking the first floor. The attic will be shared. Grandpa has his mini office there (already there and cannot be changed) and each family should definitely also have a storage room.

Please don't mind that they use the stairs and the attic together. They run around all day anyway. They want it that way.

We have a knee wall of 74 cm (inside). However, all measurements were taken by crawling around with a baby at hand. Deviations have to be accepted. Insulation will go directly on the slopes - no ceiling. Two dormers are in the future children's rooms - I can only suggest them as windows. The 2m limit is 2m away from the knee wall - marked as a line. The starting situation is not entirely straightforward, because of the chimneys and small windows. And of course, the whole thing is not perfectly symmetrical.

Attached is the homeowner's draft. I don't think it's bad at all. What’s annoying is storage room 1 with the door/wall situation and that the wall ends halfway in front of the stairs.

I made a second suggestion with slanted walls. This makes the hallway bigger, but the usable space of the rooms only loses slightly since the winding corridor from the homeowner's suggestion is not usable anyway.

The third picture shows only the initial situation.

Does anyone else have ideas?

Here is another variant - even more slants.

Hello,
thanks for your opinions. So far, everyone likes the last solution best. I'm not a fan of slants, but here it really has advantages.

I have drawn in some furniture. With a 74 cm knee wall, I probably have to move the beds away from the wall. The vertical wall is certainly needed by the kids for a wardrobe and desk.

I shifted one wall at the chimney so that the shelf is now in the play corridor. Let's see what the house owner says. He'll have to build it. ;)

Why away from the knee wall with the bed? For me, the bed is right up against the knee wall and that works well. It depends on the bed height, but usually there is still enough space. You can also see which way you can put the bed right up against the knee wall. I find it unfortunate to have it set apart from the knee wall like that.

You could also place the beds so that they are not directly visible from the door. Personally, I always liked that, although it is not a must.

I used to have my desk right at the knee wall, too. Here, the height is not directly a problem either. But I don’t know exactly how the dimensions work out then and what height you have relative to the slope when you go to the desk.

In any case, I would reserve all corners and surfaces that are 2m high for furniture and other items that absolutely require this height. For example, a wardrobe.
