The prices of the plots here in the district (rural, on the edge of the Ruhr area) are so high. If you drive a little further out, it is significantly cheaper. However, it would have the disadvantage that the family is reachable in 30 minutes instead of 15 minutes. It becomes problematic, however, to get a plot at all here in the village. The commute to work would be almost identical with both decisions.

Why should part-time work NOT make sense for you?

You need to answer this question honestly in order to know which finances you can continue to count on. If the answer is because SHE wants to raise children/ YOU do not want to manage the household - okay. But from a financial perspective, this is likely the worse choice and should be reflected in the loan repayment or options to change the installment amount.

That is relatively simple.

My week consists of four working days and would be reduced to two days a week if I switched to the 24-hour shift.

This would result in an allowance of about €250-300 for inconvenient hours for me.

In the intermediate service, I initially earn less than you do, but I am a federal civil servant. Since the division of experience levels and the general pay differ, financially not much will change.

She would have the advantage of coming from the rotating shift (police) in part-time. This point would probably make sense even if it costs money.

That is indeed an interesting constellation. But could you definitely manage to care for a child if you are on duty at the same time or definitely avoid duty at the same time? Corresponding external care costs money and should be taken into account by you in future expenses.

Yes, and a woman is closer to the child than you as a man. Now all the feminists will come right away.

As much as I would like to answer yes to that, there are days in the month (especially when she has an early shift) when it is difficult. The grandparents would of course be a great support in that case. But then we have to bite the bullet and accept the higher land price. In terms of location, we would probably even like the cheaper plot better (because it is even more rural).
