Hello,

parquet flooring was installed in our new apartment. Unfortunately, it now creaks regularly in 2-3 spots. I have not been able to determine an exact rhythm; sometimes it creaks several times in a row, but each spot creaks at least once a minute. This is very disturbing in the bedroom because it is not a subtle creaking. I read online that this can be normal at first and usually resolves over time? The parquet has been installed for almost two months now.

One spot creaks particularly strongly, but this calms down when I turn off the underfloor heating in the adjacent room. Of course, this is not a permanent solution, as I would like to have warm feet in the morning. I will definitely contact the parquet installer and/or the heating technician.

Has anyone had a similar case or any idea why it might be creaking? It seems to me that it only creaks where "heavy" furniture stands.

How is the parquet constructed and is it fully glued down?

Best regards

Hello "South". Completely independent of whether the parquet was installed as a floating floor or glued down over the entire area: according to applicable case law, a constant noise development in parquet constitutes a defect in the matter. The reasons for this can – as our own experience shows – be multifaceted. Simple home remedies will not lead to success here and ultimately it is irrelevant whether one or another reader has had similar experiences in the past. So, what is to be done now? Well, if you directly commissioned the parquet fitter, send him a letter in which the subject line contains the note Mängelrüge. If you built through a general contractor and he commissioned the "parquet work" scope within the turnkey construction, then you address this letter to your contractual partner, the construction company. Now describe what you are complaining about and demand, with a deadline (2 weeks for a response, max. 4 weeks for defect rectification), that the defect be remedied. A phone call is strongly discouraged (because of the burden of proof) and written form should be chosen. A registered letter can be useful, but it is not required. -------------------------------------- (Diese Hinweise sind keine Rechtsberatung!) Good luck: KlaRa

Hello,

thank you very much for the answers!

We are dealing with a rental apartment and unfortunately I do not have the construction description. However, at first layman’s glance it looks like glued parquet (no joints visible).

As soon as my landlady is back from vacation, we wanted to go through the list of defects anyway, then this will be at the very top of the list.

I would still be interested in where the sound(s) come from and for what reason. If the issue is resolved, I can hopefully speak with the installer.

Best regards,
South

Hello,

then please show it to the landlord and maybe give the tip about the defect.

Now it's the landlord's responsibility whether it will be fixed...

Final report: The problem actually resolved itself over time (approx. 2 months). Everything probably needed to settle first.
