The fundamental problem is, in my opinion, not the hardware but the software and the effort to set it up. That's a service business and is either overpriced or done yourself. Arduino and PI are nice and all, but they are disposable goods. Cheap at first investment but think about your warranty.
The devices we install are certainly not disposable goods. Just read about how extensively the Smarthome Manager is tested and with what (industrial quality) hardware (Raspi3, dual LAN, flash instead of SD card, etc.) it is built. The Controllino is similar, but in my opinion not quite of such high quality. Of course, it is also (somewhat) more susceptible since probably a relay will fail first.
I would take a look at Loxone, you don’t need a programmer for that, you can do it yourself. With the appropriate inputs, you can use regular switches, etc.

Hello, Loxone, KNX etc. threads are plentiful. Please do not "fill" this thread with advantages and disadvantages of various systems. This thread is solely about "our" system based on the hardware and software components mentioned at the beginning - thank you!
