Our terrace faces northwest, and so does the play area. Therefore, the terrace doors also face northwest. At the current temperatures, it's a dream. However, it is not summer and hot all year round. The northwest area in spring lags about 4 weeks behind the south garden - hence a small seating area in the south. And the brightness varies during the dark half of the year. We have a southwest window in the open room, and on some days it feels like more light comes in through it than through the large doors. Upstairs, in the children's room with a southwest window and a small west window, you can still manage well with natural light; in the neighboring room with a northwest orientation, artificial light is needed. Both rooms are the same size, same layout, same window area. Seating area in the south - for a coffee in spring or late autumn. Plan the open room so that windows, e.g., in the kitchen area, bring light from the south into the house.
