Hello everyone,

please answer a question about wall design that is unclear to me. I agreed with the painters on a Q3 wall, a fleece, and a silicate paint. They have not started yet, but they have already had several rolls of glass fleece delivered to the construction site. I did not expect that; I thought fleece was made of cellulose, etc., and I am a bit surprised. I will inquire, but I wanted to ask you for information about this. Is this the standard? How can this be professionally assessed?

Thanks and regards GD

Unfortunately, you are asking the wrong questions. What was agreed upon in the contract? Because fleece can be anything ==> painter’s fleece, fiberglass fleece, skim coat fleece. And how is the fleece supposed to be applied? On the finished Q3 wall or embedded, then sanded and painted? All variants I mentioned are possible and professionally also completely fine or standard. The real question is what you ordered. "Make me a wall with fleece" practically gives the craftsman all possibilities. "Plaster wall, skim coat and sand at Q3 level, then cover with 220g/sqm painter’s fleece and paint with white Sto Schlagmichtot silicate paint" would be the clear instruction in the contract about what is to be done.

Thank you Nordanney - yes, I’ve checked that now too... Well - amateur expert after all, I decided on fleece after asking around and searching forums, without knowing there are also tons of different versions.

The painter wants to fill it in, sand it, fill again twice and then use mineral/silicate paint from Keim. He says this stays most diffusion-open since we have lime plaster.

I always only had the classic painter’s fleece in mind, with paste on the smooth wall and then paint on top - but I find the version offered now more elegant (again, amateur opinion).

Then it's probably more like a net, right? Because otherwise I would say fiber optic is not diffusion-open...
But yeah, with lime plaster I also wouldn't stick painter's fleece over it...

Yes and no – it’s not the classic mesh with small squares but a fleece made of irregular mineral fibers. I have seen it, very thin, you can almost see through it. Apparently you can also paint it directly – but that wouldn’t be my thing. GD

So a plaster fleece. I personally find that the best solution. Look forward to a great wall that just needs to be painted and still won’t show the usual cracks.
