Thank you very much, Michael. Yes, that's how I would like it too.. I like that. Yesterday, I suggested to our planner terrace doors with a width of 1.40 m. That results in a single-wing passage of about 60 cm. That should definitely be enough.

But definitely not if it is your main access to the terrace - the other user also said that these doors are used as access now and then. With you, it’s always like that, right?

Hm.. let's ask Michael once again..

Is that on the photo just a "secondary access" to the terrace, which you rarely use?
And is there another wider access to the terrace that you mainly use?

Hello Steffi,

from many handed-over BV I can tell you that double-winged, floor-to-ceiling windows in sizes < 1.51 m don’t make much sense if they are to be used practically. Furthermore, it is so that humans are creatures of habit and therefore the routines from the rental apartment are also reflected in the owner-occupied home. You will surely also transfer your "paths/actions" from the rental apartment to the new building. Example: if you currently open all windows with your right hand, you will handle it the same way in the new building ... if you currently live on the ground floor and always go through the left window door onto the terrace, you will do the same in the new building. This must always be taken into account when arranging/ sizing the windows.

If your picture from #5 corresponds to the later picture of the new building, I would go for 0.885 x 2.135 m (1 window sash) on the right and left and as wide as possible in the middle, but at least 1.51 x 2.135 m. This ensures that you can "sometimes" walk outside onto the terrace with a tray through one of the outer window doors without having to squeeze through. In the middle, you can then - fully opened and without mullions - also transport bulky things.

The illusion of a "divided" window door can be maintained by internal mullions; if it is about the optics for you.

Rhenish greetings

Hello,

this door was not intended by the original builders as the main access to the terrace, but we use it most often. So it is our main access. It never occurred to me that it could be too narrow. The other doors are probably about 10cm wider in total. However, even as single-leaf doors, they are not wide enough for the clothes drying rack. When I really want to go through the door with something wide, I open the second leaf. That is really not a problem. Single-leaf doors would probably bother me more because of the space they take up in the room.
I do not carry very bulky things through the house onto the terrace. I go around outside for that.
Hope that helps.
Best regards
Michael

We have an 80 cm passage with one door leaf open. This allows you to comfortably pass through with a tray and a narrow drying rack. For the fully loaded wider drying racks, you have to open the second door if necessary. I didn’t want to open both doors every time.
