Academics are feared in such situations because they are seen as troublemakers. Possibly starting a workers' council or getting involved with the union.

Furthermore, many foremen are also unhappy if the new employee is more capable than they are.

Many bosses also dislike hiring someone who is smarter than themselves.

Sure... and if you can’t do anything or don’t know how to sell yourself well, you’re worthless even with a degree.

But a permanent contract does bring some advantages. You are relaxed, don’t always have to dread the fixed-term deadlines, and may be in a better negotiating position.

Of course, if someone wants to get rid of you, that’s just how it is. But you should also recognize the signs if you’re not completely clueless and apply anew from a permanent position.

I have already considered just applying with my secondary school diploma, I might have better chances that way. In the company where my husband works, there are people who don’t even speak German, have no school leaving certificate, and take sick leave for several weeks a year. Somehow they also got a job. But the company doesn’t hire women... Still, it would really be worth a try just with the secondary school certificate. It has worked once before; I got a training contract at Deutsche Bank with exactly that certificate.

Consultation? As I said... the conclusion doesn't matter.

So I have only just made it to page 3 in the thread. You have all laid out your incomes here. I am increasingly less clear about why people keep bashing the salary at VW. Here, people write about 75k gross/year as a cheap IT specialist. Or 60k without a degree after 2 years and stuff like that... You only earn 75k at VW with AT or Tarif Plus. And until then, as a graduate, it takes at least 10 years. No idea why everyone keeps putting down VW when I see these salaries here. *shakes head* Sorry if the comment no longer fits the content of pages 4-7.

Elina,

if you want, just let me know. I’d like to take a look at your documents and maybe I can say something. You said that some people have already done that, but a couple more pairs of eyes won’t hurt. I’ve seen hundreds of resumes and cover letters in my life.
