I actually like the factual contributions or the own bare unvarnished numbers. Everyone I know who knows someone else doesn't really help. BTT:

Four years ago when I quit, retail, administration, a little over 10 years of professional experience, studies, all in all just under 50k gross per year. I believe that was 38 hours/week, air-conditioned double office, regular working hours and fairly flexible.

How much that would be currently is speculation, but the really big jumps were, from experience, rather rare.

Aha, very interesting...
Maybe I should have mentioned that for household income I mean at least 2 people, possibly plus child(ren).
But it doesn't matter, I was concerned about the generalization of some annual net-gross income to loan amount.

That was a good one. Of 4 self-employed people who were with us, only 1 really earned a lot. The other 3 are scraping by from 3-4 month project to project.

Even the c't salary survey says otherwise.

One should not directly compare the income of the self-employed 1 to 1 with the gross salary of employees.

Of course, I am talking about profit and not about revenue.

I remember the last c't salary survey (many many years ago) as showing that the self-employed performed significantly better there. But maybe I am mistaken...

I find it crazy how some assume that you easily earn 50k. Here in the East, it is not uncommon to get by on less than €3,000 gross per month. I myself started as a project engineer with €2,700...

Now it's a few euros more but also at least 45-50 hour weeks + a good 10 hours of home office...

I believe you immediately that you take your hat off to that. That’s exactly the difference between us. I take my hat off to people who make a difference and push forward, not to people who try to impress me with pay slips. But maybe that’s also the reason why there’s “more in it” for me. But I don’t work in the IT industry either.
