I experience that here often too, yes. Something has actually gone missing once, although that is very rare here in the village. It was only a pair of leggings for 15€. But I was able to contact Amazon and since I a) was at home and b) did not agree to a drop-off, I received a replacement. With a parcel locker you usually (depending on the system) automatically agree to the drop-off. If something then goes missing, it’s either gone or you have to hope for goodwill.

With us, they also just left it without permission, and not just one service provider, but almost all, even when we were at home, and some even after a written complaint. Once they leaned the package against the patio door while we were away for the weekend. Then the shutter always closed over it, it rained, and accordingly, the contents looked like that afterwards. For a while, there was ringing at the door until it was torn down again. But do you want to get a parcel box just to use it only when you're not home? That would be too inconvenient for me again. I would then simply grant permission for the parcel box, and then the courier can always leave it there; it's faster for him that way too.

I think if something goes missing with us, it's more likely because of the wind than theft. But it annoys me, I'm working from home for 4 days and could take everything directly into the house. I do that anyway when the push notification about the delivery arrives 5 minutes later. It was different before in the apartment building. Back then, everything was often left in the stairwell and anyone could help themselves

Many parcel boxes that I see are small or have limited usability.

I don't have one. But if I were to get one, I would choose a larger, professional one, possibly with pickup etc.

Otherwise, I would make sure that the mailbox is really big.

The parcel delivery person should only be for packages when we are not at home.

We both work until around 4 p.m. and are therefore not at home all morning.

Medium-sized packages should fit in the parcel box. (like the most common sizes)

We imagined a parcel box where letters go in at the top and underneath a flap for small to medium packages that, after closing, drop down one level where you can only access it with a key.

I think you can forget that. The drivers of the parcel services have a stressful job from hell. Poorly paid, impossible amounts of packages, often no breaks - that's pure horror. I don't believe they will ring your bell first. When they see a parcel box, they probably internally do a little jump for joy because they save a minute of lost time, throw the package in, and drive on - whether you are there or not.
