These are exactly my thoughts. For this reason, I have not given a general drop-off permission for the garden shed or terrace so far. Now, with the new house, we are reconsidering. On the one hand, I find it quite practical, especially when the children are alone, that they don’t have to open the door because they think, "it’s just the parcel courier...". But on the other hand, as writes, you are dependent on the honesty of the delivery people and might be out of luck if in doubt.

Does one have to give the parcel service permission to leave the package in the locker?

Currently, the parcel services also throw the thin envelopes (mostly those from Amazon) into the mailbox (where they then stick out halfway).

No idea if they are at home or not and if they would even accept the packages (new development area).

Would a parcel carrier just put it in the parcel locker without me giving permission beforehand just to get rid of the package?
I haven't signed for any packages in recent years anyway.

I don't want to rely on honesty—we all know who especially DPD has driving around here.

It depends on the courier. Amazon now has many of its own drivers. We have also had very large parcels simply left right in front of the door. It even happened once when we were on vacation. Since I have a camera at the front door, I luckily saw it and asked the neighbor to pick up the parcel and keep it safe for a while. I didn't want to leave the parcel in front of the door for several days.

Many drivers just leave it at the door without ringing the bell. Whether you give an OK or not. In the tracking, it then says "wurde einem Hausbewohner übergeben".

I can understand that many people do this. I think it simply depends a lot on the region and circumstances. I once had a time when I received many packages and constantly changing delivery persons drove in our area, and really multiple packages worth €500 and more disappeared. Therefore, I am cautious about it. A burnt child fears the fire.

We are happy about our parcel box. It is securely locked, weatherproof... You can also have packages collected there by courier services or third parties. Our areas are all protected, but I would do it again anytime.
