As I said, hardly anyone really follows through. Still, everyone considered it. You need a garage, a garden, sometimes new furniture, sometimes a new kitchen, maybe a new car or a repair. You can always talk to the banks if the money is not enough, for example due to unemployment or if you really have something important to pay. But I would also rather pay off more and thus "force savings." Many have the same thought as you, but most then only pay the normal amount out of convenience and after 2-3 years the special repayment is completely forgotten anyway...

Thank you for your critical and constructive opinions and comments! I have thought it over again and consider us self-reflective and disciplined enough to make regular special repayments and not to deceive ourselves.
We have therefore actually decided on a comparatively low initial repayment rate of 1.5%, alongside which a monthly standing order is transferred to the repayment account. The mentioned special expenses should still be feasible, or are already factored into our financing (e.g. garden, garage, kitchen).

Best regards and many thanks,
Foxxxi

Glad for you.
That is also a process in which you question yourself and that can be very exciting.

Thank you for posting here how you finally decided.

I wish you much success with your project

It is not advisable in this low interest phase to start with only 1% repayment and keep the accumulation open to make special repayments. It is better to repay 2% and thus pay off the loan faster. The special repayment option is still available, and there is also the possibility with various banks to change the repayment amount within the fixed interest period.
