We go from the garage up 66 steps to the cellar door. The cellar door has become the main entrance; it is located 1 meter above ground level. Previously, the house entrance was on the ground floor, but on the other side of the house. This does have the advantage that you only have to go down 6 steps to the house entrance, but for us it is completely impractical because it is a half odyssey from the garage to the front door. You not only have to climb the 66 steps but also walk around the house and climb another 20 steps. We could also park our car on the upper driveway to the house and then only have to go down the 6 steps, but then what is the point of having a garage?
In the basement there will also be a living room, a bathroom, and the technical room. On the ground floor are the kitchen, bedroom, and two more living rooms. The kitchen on the ground floor had to be there because otherwise the drainage pipes in the cellar level (splitlevel) would be too high. Since we also have an entrance door on the ground floor, we don't have to climb the 66 steps with the groceries from the garage but park the car on the driveway (the property itself is not drivable), carry everything down the 6 steps to the kitchen, and then drive the car into the garage. The kitchen is actually optimally located there.
