Hello,

I have some general questions about light well covers and hope I am in the right place.

What exactly is the purpose of this cover?
Is it to prevent the light wells from being "flooded" from above during heavy rain?
My light wells have a hole in the middle, so they must be connected to the drainage system.

The basement windows I have are old "things" made of metal, or is the cover supposed to prevent heavy rain pressing against the house wall from finding its way through the window into the basement?

Thanks for the food for thought.

Regards, Dimi

I only have limited knowledge about it, but I know that a hole alone does not mean that they are also connected to the drainage. So you would have to check whether water actually drains or not.

Hi,
yes, water definitely drains away, but where to is hard to say.

Does anyone else possibly have an idea what function the [Lichtschachtabdeckungen] are supposed to serve?

You mean made of glass? Only those regarding rain protection.

Yes exactly, the ones made of glass. Because the windows are not waterproof or why? I don't get the feeling that much is intercepted there, yet you often see these things on older houses. Regards Dimi

Driving rain is already intercepted, generally quite a bit – it doesn't need to be watertight under pressure (if you only have metal windows).
