yes, my husband works in construction. The pavers were practically free from a road demolition (is that the right term?) and he paved them himself. They are kind of "used" granite pavers, but I find them very barefoot-friendly :)

All in all, it looks absolutely great and then the beautiful location on the outskirts! Perhaps the best overall package here in the forum

Turned out great

Voles are a problem.
You can put the plants, at least the expensive ones, in a vole cage made of chicken wire.
Daffodils and mullein should also help.

I now put everything in chicken wire. Whether expensive or cheap. From below and from ABOVE... because at the moment a sweeping roe buck is the problem... so much for the edge of town location :) BUT interestingly I think there is a "remedy" against voles. I had countless tunnels and holes and this year they were inhabited by wasps. It's not exactly ideal either and you really have to be careful when mowing the lawn, but so far nothing has been eaten away. Or maybe it's the chicken wire, but not everything is planted yet either. I once planted a "test dahlia" without wire and it is still standing. But I don’t want to rely on that.

Even though I don't believe that your husband is a journeyman in a crew ;) This is an absolute prime example that with the appropriate background, you can also build a house with your own efforts and make it look beautiful on the outside. I am impressed, especially because your own efforts surpass most of what neighbors here have had done for a lot, lot of money by the "professional"...
