How is the handling of a kitchen island in practice? Currently, I have a completely normal kitchen unit. But I am thinking about a kitchen island. Only, how is it with grease splatters and the like? Sometimes the fat splatters quite strongly and everything around the stove is covered with it. I also noticed something on the floor because my stove top is maybe 5-10 cm from the edge. With a kitchen island, that would mean you should have at least 20 cm from the edge of the countertop at the front/back and left/right so that the floor is not covered everywhere? The sink is probably on the other side for me; how is it with cleaning, etc.? It certainly makes more mess if you have to carry your things across the floor?

Seal the floor.

The individual cooking zones within the cooktop are also not directly at the edge, but 20 cm where you stand might be a bit much. Space to the left/right and behind the cooktop for storage does no harm; it shouldn’t be too tight.

That is correct. According to the recommendation, I believe it is even 30cm on each side. But you should anyway have the possibility to place something next to it or to quickly take a pot off the burner. However, if you're already thinking about practicality, then you should also put the sink on the island. That is much easier than having to turn around and walk 2-3 steps every time to refill or drain water, etc.

So taking the sink onto the island will probably not be that easy. I could still bury the power cables in the floor, and that would be fine, but it will be difficult with the pipes. I hadn't really planned it that way. Basically, I only wanted the stovetop on the island and then keep the space free on the left or right next to it to cook freely or to prepare the food. I would probably lay tiles on the floor, but of course, you have to clean those as well.

Hello

Don’t forget the power connection!

There are these retractable socket ports. However, we will have a flat socket port installed that, by turning, reveals two sockets. It takes up hardly any space in the cabinet below.

Do you only have the cooktop on your island? Induction or ceramic? I still don’t quite understand the advantage of an induction stove...
