KFW40 or better in solid construction, possible without additional insulation?

We did not find anyone in 2016 who built solid without insulation, to the passive house standard. Theoretically it is possible, practically the companies did not want to. We started looking regionally. Then we quickly stuck with solid wood with insulation. That made the search unnecessary. I can recommend a company for solid wood with insulation, unfortunately not for stone on stone.

I actually don't want solid wood. Either a timber frame or solid with stone.

If the insulation has to go on it, it just becomes more complicated, because for insulation only a ventilated rainscreen facade is really interesting, and then I need a facade for the very outside again, which will probably be more complex. I could imagine a wooden facade. But a solid construction with a wooden facade is also kind of weird ^^

There is nothing funny about it at all. Whether plaster, wood, or cladding, it is primarily a visual question. You are currently just choosing very expensive things. A monolithic KfW 40, I claim, will be several (!) tens of thousands of euros more expensive than building this with a timber frame or ETICS. In addition, there is the loss of space due to the thick stone. Cladding a house entirely with wood also costs significantly five figures, plus the maintenance.

Phew, ok. I actually didn't want to look for the most expensive option at all.... What do you mean by that? That purely monolithic at KFW40 (or better) is the most expensive, or monolithic + insulated exterior facade?

The work on the wooden facade isn't significant. And that's a trade I almost feel confident enough to do myself. With a bit of input, I should be able to manage it completely on my own.

Hmm, then maybe back to timber frame construction after all. It apparently has an advantage with extreme insulation. The downside is the low thermal mass and therefore poorer phase shift (especially relevant in summer, keyword overheating) and the durability of the substance itself. (And a few other disadvantages compared to solid construction)....

Timber frame was actually already decided. But I talked to someone over the weekend who said that solid construction doesn’t cost much more and has some advantages.

It remains exciting. Luckily the house build isn’t planned for another 2 to 3 years ^^

What do you expect from KfW40 or better? Monolithic is great, if it only results in KfW55 then that is also good.

How about lower heating costs over the next 60 years....

KFW55 is actually not an option for me. Rather in the other direction, namely towards passive house standard in terms of insulation.
