Is it possible to change the insulation after the building permit or not?

Hello,

we have received the building permit for our house.
The exterior wall is to be 24 cm Poroton + 14 cm [WDVS].
More and more people are now advising me against this; however, a 36 cm brick would have been too expensive (the construction company probably doesn’t want that).
Now I might like to switch from Styrofoam to stone wool, is that still possible?
Is Styrofoam really as bad as claimed or can you manage with it?

Thank you very much in advance.

we have 17.5 ks + 1cm air + 14cm mineral wool + 12.5 facing brick our architect only installs mineral wool

What are people claiming?
The production of mineral wool requires more primary energy than EPS, so ecologically it's 1:1.
Also: if it gets wet once, then it's ruined. But it probably insulates great – if it's dry?!
Maybe the structural engineering would have to be redone? After all, it’s heavier than EPS...

Is the material for the insulation even specified in the building application, or only ETICS? If not, that’s not a problem, EPS and stone wool boards should be available with the same thermal conductivity values, so that there is no change to the external appearance, overall dimensions, or energy values; the plaster is the same.

Switch to stone wool because of higher storage capacity and resulting lower temperature fluctuations on the surface, or because of vapor permeability, or because of sound insulation, or for ecological reasons, or because of fire protection?

Probably only ETICS, but I would have to check again precisely.

For various reasons... ecological, sound insulation, but also the problems of EPS (algae growth, dark spots, ...), durability

The only question is whether the additional cost of presumably several thousand is worth it... what would bother me above all is the algae growth, so that I would have to renew the paint every few years or something like that.

Then you are free to choose anyway. So you can also choose jute, wood fiber, or stone wool depending on your preference.

Algae growth can of course be reduced by a higher heat capacity of the insulation material, but the plaster also plays a role (mineral silicone resin plaster with the appropriate color helps there). Regarding ecology and primary energy used, has already written something, it gets better with the mentioned jute or wood fiber - but here the insulation layer is somewhat thicker because the thermal conductivity is higher.
Durability should be the same for all; EPS is even the most insensitive regarding getting wet, it does not collapse or stick together like stone wool - if that happens, something has gone wrong beforehand.
