Particleboard is by no means significantly lighter than solid wood, just considerably cheaper. A PAX carcass 236x100x58 weighs around 55kg, plus doors, shelves. That quickly adds up to 100kg per linear meter.
Drive to Ikea and try to load a cabinet onto the cart by yourself. Afterwards, you won’t believe in a comma error anymore, but will have to see an orthopedist...
PS:
Our highboard in the living room 140x180x40 weighs a good 200kg. And that’s not solid wood either ;)
But a normal wardrobe doesn’t weigh 450 kg either. That’s quite a hefty piece. Solid wood?
You can easily be mistaken there. We recently ordered and had the dressing room delivered from IKEA. They are just Ivar parts.
It is solid wood, but unlike a regular wardrobe, it’s more of a shelf style and not closed all around.
The shipping company groaned and said at the end that they had just carried over 600 kilos into the house.
