Cool thing!
Today I'll see if I can find that as spare parts in the bargain bin. I don't even have the cabinets yet, but whatever.

The upper cabinets 80 also don't seem to have a bent Pax back panel, probably for reasons the Ikea expert mentioned. But I'll take a look at that later too.

I wouldn't have to turn them, right, or what exactly do you mean? (Anyway, I plan to remove the back panels from all cabinets that are against the exterior wall to prevent mold risk. The cabinets will be attached to the wall for stability.)

For your information: the tall cabinet 80x60x200 would probably be assembled from:
2 base cabinets 60x80x60 (each the bottom for bottom/ceiling of the tall cabinet)
1 tall cabinet 40x60x200 (side walls)
1 tall cabinet 80x37x200 (Pax back panel... although I tend to just stack the back panels of the other cabinets and leave a gap - we'll see.)

Thanks to you all!

It is definitely cheaper to have a back panel cut at the hardware store / from the timber merchant than to buy a complete cabinet just for the back panel. The cabinets from Metod are ventilated at the back.

Therefore the idea of not buying a tall cabinet. The rest would be processed: two 40 cm base cabinets made from the side panels of the 80 plus the bottom or top of the tall cabinet... only the metal parts are missing. The 40 cm back panel could also be cut to size from the tall cabinet if needed.

The rear ventilation is just under 1 cm, which is too risky for me. And we have no alternative to the outer wall. Since drawers are used anyway, the missing back panel won’t be noticeable, right? (Does the wall actually stay in place with the oven?)

Regarding the back panels: I stand corrected because I have now seen that, for example, an 80*100 wall cabinet (corpus: 902.055.30) actually has packaging dimensions that suggest a single-piece back panel. By the way, you can also find these in the bargain bin; I recently got a huge piece for €1.50.

As for "rotating" the side panels: what I meant is that if you need two cabinets with 40-high side panels, you might only need one 80-high corpus and cut the side panels into two parts, then use each cut part "upside down." This results in 4 instead of 2 side panels (only for base cabinets), since the rows of holes are equally spaced from the end of the side panel when viewed from the top or bottom. For the two pseudo-side panels per 40-wide drawer in my picture above, i.e., 4 in total, I only needed to get one 40-wide corpus.

Update: for the rails, simply buy an aluminum U-profile at the hardware store if you can't find anything in the bargain bin. Then make two recesses and holes yourself. Easy to do and very stiff.

I asked at IKEA Berlin Tempelhof, at least there you can also order spare parts without a receipt. In the bargain corner they had no parts in that direction at all, and no back panels either.

The used carcasses looked as worn as expected... with only 25-40% discount it would really only be worth it to me as "cutting material." But I’ll keep that as an option in the back of my mind.

Hello Nörgli,

I'm currently building a self-conversion kitchen from Ikea myself.

First regarding the second problem. If I understand correctly, you want a "bench" under the window and 2x 40cm drawer cabinets to the left and right of the stove.

Why don't you take 2x 60224078 METOD wall cabinets white 40x60x40 cm = 2x 17 euro carcass for the bench.
As you placed it as a "replacement part" to the left of the oven?

Feet underneath, countertop on top....... fronts with 40x80 cm exist.
Done. You don't even have to fiddle long with the 40cm drawer cabinet. 1x 20 euro carcass.

If you swap them..... you save 17 euros - one small carcass less. But then you're missing the top parts/metal rails. Although...... these can be ordered as spare parts
no idea what that costs and how fast that is.
You can find the order number on the assembly plan of a carcass that has exactly these desired rails.

So for me, the effort is not worth 17 euros.

Bye Sabine
