Internet and telephone distribution box on our property

we have bought a plot of land and want to start building soon.

In the town, fiber optic cables are currently being installed and yesterday we received a call from the fiber optic company (not Telekom). They would like to place the distribution box for the street on our property and wanted to arrange an on-site appointment with us to discuss where it should be placed.

Do we have to agree to the distribution box or could we also refuse? And can we at least agree on some kind of rent for it?

I want to say: even I wouldn’t be so stupid as not to be happy about having my own data highway access. And that, as a non-lawyer, I have no idea whether some possibly ancient property owner declaration towards DBP Telekom can be used here for universal service provision. Ask a lawyer, but not for too long, or a neighbor might take the thing and you’ll have to “pay the price” by waiting longer for your connection. Even if with fiber optics cable lengths are no longer critical: close is still close and doesn’t hurt. The boy is at the source.

I wouldn't agree so generally. Use of the property can indeed be restricted with unfavorably placed "boxes". Placement on your property should of course be optimized, for that your future development needs to be clear. You don't want the thing to be in front of your garage entrance. Understand the contract terms and try to negotiate at least the free connection (permanent :p) ;)

With us, it was placed in the gutter in the residential area (questionable whether sensible), but not on private property!
