Do we have to agree to the distribution box or can we also reject it? And can we at least agree on some kind of rent for it?

Talk to the company, arrange a location on your property for it that doesn’t bother you. Instead of asking for rent, I would ask for a permanently free internet service for your house. That costs the provider less and may bring you more.

Not that the thing is standing in front of your garage driveway.

Free internet would be fine with me too. But what if I move away and rent out the place or want to switch providers (for whatever reason). In that case, a rental payment is more universal. I will talk to the company and am curious about what they say.

Did you measure to see if it really is on your side and check what the land register sheet says about it?
Call the town hall: there are no pirate gangs installing distribution boxes without the knowledge of the building authority.

If it really is your property and the thing is inconveniently placed, discuss a relocation with the operator. Anyone living so close to an internet connection distribution box nowadays and wanting it gone would probably have to come from another world somehow. I would negotiate compensation in the form of a free personal connection.

Better take a look at the development plan. In our case, it states that distribution cabinets along the street must be tolerated up to 0.5m deep on the property.
