Good evening,

If the spots are installed by professionals - often the roofer - there are generally no problems.

The rain does it for you; from the inside: when daylight behaves like twilight :D

I would also put in a roof window. But I just thought of another option after seeing your floor plan. Why not add a nice narrow transom window next to the glass door to the hallway, spanning the entire width of the stairs? I can also imagine that very nicely. And something else I noticed in passing: why don't you move the door to the garage closer to the front door? Then you would have 2 walls where you can put things ;-)

Hello Manu, thanks for the two suggestions. The door to the garage was placed that way to get directly to the workshop behind the garage without the car being in the way.

A skylight is a really good idea, but unfortunately there is already an electrical line running inside and the plastering is already done by now.

I think the roof window or a light spot are the most effective solutions for more light.

I'll have the contractor offer me a spot solution :-)

We have a double casement window in a similar situation in the hallway above the staircase. I planned it that way back then (I didn’t know about [Lichtkuppeln] at the time, an interesting alternative).

The lighting situation has become very good because of it. The hallway and the stairwell have plenty of daylight. Without windows: it would be a dark hole. We are very glad we did it. Neighbors across the street "copied" it and are very happy about it.

This is a pure double casement window for lighting with daylight. It can be opened, but according to the BL description it was not supposed to be opened at all. With a hook on an extension, it could be opened; I see no need for that in our case.

On the subject of cleaning:
- Inside: I bought a 4 m telescopic window cleaner for 30 euros
- Outside: Mostly done by the rain. For my pressure washer, there is an extension lance (for exactly such cleaning purposes).

On the subject of noise (when raining):
- And personally it doesn’t bother me. But it can be disturbing.

Best regards
Thorsten
