Now it’s about the interior design regarding tiles, type of wood staircase, and decoration.
Although I also use Pinterest and so on now, I actually didn’t know this format and similar ones six years ago before building the house. I still flipped through magazines, which I still have.
And I must also say: I have a bit of a sense for design in my blood; I already knew beforehand that doors, for example, would only be acceptable to me in neutral white, walls hardly in white, and if so, then only as a design accent.
Thus, in our home you find both old and modern furniture, timeless as well as striking pieces, which are occasionally swapped out or repainted. In that sense, I have my own style, to which I stay true even when I buy mass-produced items from Ikea. Still, I use platforms for my questions because you become blind to your own environment, and old perspectives also need fresh wind.
Basically, I would say you should take contrasts: matte wood goes with glossy white and vice versa.
Various types of wood can also be combined, but not in the same tone.
Personally, I would not combine two stones (kitchen countertop and floor) with each other (except high gloss dark with matte light), nor a specifically colored piece of furniture with a differently colored unique piece. Something neutral should connect all elements.
Complementary colors harmonize when it comes to color.
Nowadays there are possibilities on Houzz, FB, and other platforms to ask your questions and receive helpful answers.
But I do think that after reading the third home magazine, you should know whether you are made for colorful walls or prefer the country house style in the kitchen.
We can well imagine the country house style direction; after all, it’s going to the countryside.
By now, everything is country house style: Scandinavian, English, shabby, retro. The art is probably not to make it look like a uniform mush. If a rustic country house style is desired, I wouldn’t let the paneled doors shine in natural wood, unless it’s a farmer’s cottage.
But many like pine wood doors, which is rather specific and hard to combine. It can also radiate a church-diaconal flair in beech wood format.
I find it confusing that many who like country house style at home find it annoying and old-fashioned on vacation -> furniture and furnishings in traditional country house style are rejected in Mallorca, unless they are exactly “Made in China” rather than real country house style.
Too much from Pinterest and without a personal touch mostly looks like a furniture store... I’m currently in some closed groups on FB, and then every room in a house looks the same. Same mushy mess, completely emotionless. A lantern on every door corner.
Maybe better than no style at all
Um... woman says no to pictures.
Ah yes... but to be inspired by these pictures (from others) oneself...
now “Fixer Upper“
... I also like. But it’s nothing other than Trine Wittler, just in a contemporary style. I like watching how something is repurposed or changed. In the end, the rooms are sales-promoting but not personal.
