Infrared heaters throughout the entire house?

Then better focus your attention on proper heating planning and the design of the underfloor heating. In the end, it lowers the supply temperature and thus your energy costs.

Here you are in a forum focused on underfloor heating and heat pumps, where often government subsidies influence the decision. Nevertheless, not everything else, and thus also not infrared heating, is per se nonsense. There are architects who regularly implement exactly that, also in BaWü; besides underfloor heating and heat pumps, there are also other ways to heat a house properly, and infrared heating is included in that, but at the moment heat pump-underfloor heating is what is often chosen. Every type of heating requires good planning and the absolute consideration of your preferences and needs; nowadays, in many houses, one no longer has any influence on what or how the general contractor installs it, and I personally would not have liked that at all. You will find infrared heating increasingly also in Austria, so it works the same way in the Black Forest. Every heating system has its advantages and disadvantages; for example, I do not like underfloor heating, even though I currently have one here. We ourselves are currently implementing it with infrared heating, however in connection with a larger wood stove and in an open living concept, also as KfW40+ and with a larger photovoltaic system on the roof, plus a domestic hot water heat pump. In the state of Saxony, energy consultants told me that KfW55 could never be achieved; my current energy consultant from BaWü, a recognized engineering firm, easily implements KfW40+ for me and actually brought me to this idea. The picky counter-questions or answers to your question about meaningfulness can just as well be posed in the other direction, since every other system also has pitfalls and problems. The provider you mentioned was immediately dropped here, but there are good alternatives. I have visited such houses and also know their consumption, but as said, the individual need or your position regarding it is decisive. Statements like "this is all nonsense" must be able to be endured or simply not discussed openly here in the first place. One always has to live with one’s own decision and really engage deeply with this topic beforehand AND check whether it can fit one’s own situation; we did that. Therefore, for example, underfloor heating and also a heat pump were not an option for us. There is no panacea, not even with heating systems, even though sometimes it is seen that way.

But you do know that electric direct resistance heaters are explicitly banned as the main heating system for various houses in Austria (whether completely or only in some federal states, I am not exactly sure at the moment)? Just for your information. @TE: There is a nice forum from Austria - the Energiesparhausforum. Read up there calmly and form your own opinion. And when choosing Kfw 40, don’t opt only for infrared. As a supplement yes, as the sole heating no.

I only said that it (the topic) is more common there and that, of course, you can heat a house with it; I said nothing about being the sole heating system. However, I know some here and various endless threads where people are not so happy with their heat pump without a fireplace and have high bills.
I had written that you also need to inform yourself adequately in this area; if you do that, you quickly know what is possible and what makes sense to me. I can tell you that my way is not prohibited but is deliberately chosen by some modern-thinking architects as well.
As I said, it’s far from me to try to persuade anyone; however, I sometimes experience opinion camps here like on the topic Pro/Contra gas, Pro/Contra climate policy, heating in general, controlled residential ventilation, unfortunately mostly as if there were only one or the other.
Maybe I will sometimes regret my decision or experience some things as less than optimal; but I already have that now, even with my underfloor heating. My acquaintance with his heat pump is just annoyed and has been tinkering with it for 2 years or paying stupidly high maintenance costs. Of course, that is also a single case, but such cases do exist. If I had gas, I would have taken it; now it just turned out like this and I’m looking forward to it because I deliberately chose this system.
For many, wood is also out of the question because of cost reasons. Although I myself do not plan to handle wood (or want to), and it might therefore be more expensive, I still look forward to heating the house mostly visibly with it.
I simply don’t like this ever-constant temperature in all rooms with the inertia of underfloor heating, and it doesn’t fit us or our routines.
As I said, if you actually move away from the usual suspects, you also find other options; but there isn’t much approval for that in the forum anyway :D

Hello, I at least briefly considered the alternative infrared heating for my small 60m² residential unit in the semi-detached house. However, the following key points were already clear to me, so it’s not really comparable to your situation: For the semi-detached house itself, especially the rented residential unit, definitely a heat pump! For my residential unit, I never wanted underfloor heating anyway (except possibly in the bathroom). The heating would therefore be implemented as wall or ceiling heating. The company Redwell offers nice comparative calculations, but in my opinion, they tend to be “slightly optimistic” and are only calculated for a 15-year period. A knave who thinks ill of that ;)
For me, I then discarded that option, but it would have been possible even with KfW40+. However, since only 6.5KWp was possible on the roof, unforeseeable electricity costs would arise in the future. I could not and did not want to justify that. Neither economically nor ecologically. So, as planned, a normal underfloor heating was installed in the rented unit. In my residential unit, there is a wall heating + underfloor heating in the bathroom. A small infrared (bathroom) heater is optionally provided in both bathrooms and will probably be installed additionally on the wall.

But: If I could and wanted to build again under optimal conditions (a very small house just for me), that would seriously be an option in connection with a small pellet stove.

Infrared heater 1 unit electricity = 1 unit heat Heat pump 1 unit electricity = 2.5 to 4.5 units heat
