Ikea Faktum doors on Ikea Billy shelf?

maybe I should mention beforehand that I am new here and hope – at least my previous searches indicate this – not to ask a question that has already been answered many times.

We have in a Faktum kitchen (abstract white) still space for a cabinet/sideboard with shallow depth, max. 30 cm.
The usual Faktum cabinets are therefore too deep, which is why I came up with the (absurd?) idea of using a low Billy shelf and equipping it with Faktum doors.

Has anyone done that already?
I understand that I have to drill additional holes for the hinges and that the height doesn’t fit – with a 70 cm door I would simply have an open shelf compartment, which wouldn’t be a problem.

I would be happy about a “No problem, go ahead” or a “just stay away from it,” and everything in between as well.

Unfortunately, I can't tell you anything specific about the doors, but BILLY is NOT coated with melamine like the kitchen cabinets and could swell over time in the kitchen...

Thank you very much, I had indeed not thought about that yet. Although location-wise it should not be a major problem; but it is another argument to think carefully about my idea.

The FAKTUM wall cabinets can also be used as not-so-deep base cabinets. However, they are 35.5cm deep, so probably still too deep... But at least the dimensions and fastening options fit, since they also come from the FAKTUM series.

Do you have a circular saw, or do you know someone who has one?

How about the following suggestion: Buy wall cabinets in the appropriate widths and cut them to the appropriate depth at the back with the circular saw. If you cut them so much that the hole for the rear Rastex screw is cut away, you can either drill new holes at the back depending on your skill, or simply screw them together instead. You might also have to set the shelf pin holes at the back again, depending on the depth.

It is a bit of a DIY effort (depending on the desired total width), but Ikea practically invites you to mod: "Discover the possibilities"

The bathroom furniture is not melamine-coated either... I would take a close look at a suitable Billy and then decide. Depending on the shade, the surface could be different. The holes are certainly also at a 32 mm distance. If the distance of the holes to the edge is 37 mm instead of 28 mm as with Faktum, you can simply use different mounting plates from Blum for the Integral hinges.

@EinrichtungsNiete: Thanks, I had also considered the wall cabinets, or rather whether I could live with the 37 cm. I tend to have decided against it, and the circular saw thing is a bit too much effort for me – especially since I have recently heavily burdened my circular saw source ... [ and my wife thinks it would be nice if some possibilities didn't have to be discovered in a complicated way first ... ]

@IKEA-Experte: Thanks. Yes, the hole spacing fits, and yes, it’s 37 instead of 28 mm from the edge. However, I don’t understand what you mean by "mounting plates from Blum"? Am I missing the point? (I would have just drilled additional holes.)
