I see it the same way as k-man: With old, large houses, you often also have a decent garden. In that case, one should consider NAT < -12° via WWWP. Ring trench collectors can be laid quite easily by oneself, which brings additional savings. Unless you live in the mountains, there is hardly a house that cannot be operated properly with a modern R290 heat pump. Of course, this always assumes that the house is reasonably well maintained. If nothing has been done for 30 years, renovation is necessary. But that has nothing to do with the heating system; it has to be done anyway. And ideally BEFORE renewing the heating system, otherwise the heat pump will be too large for proper operation.

Thank you very much for your assessment! The building was built in 1995. We have thought about insulating the basement ceiling and possibly insulating the roof again. It is not a classic large old building. We actually did not want to renew the windows yet. Then we will have to take another look at the underfloor heating and maybe also get a quote for a new screed. Can you carry out such a room-by-room heating load calculation yourself, or do you need a professional for that?

The current energy consumption (gas) is about 25,000 kWh per year. The living area is about 125 m². The house is detached. The winter temperatures are at most -10 to -15 °C.

Hello k-man, thank you very much for your assessment! I have actually never heard of the trench collector so specifically. That definitely sounds like an exciting alternative. However, the plot is only about 380 m² in size. The undeveloped (garden) area around the house is about 120 m². Is that enough to use this method? Presumably, distance areas to the neighbor and to one’s own house must also be observed.

And is the trench collector eligible for funding (e.g. 35% BAFA) just like geothermal and air-to-water heat pumps? However, presumably, own contribution work is not eligible for funding?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

So with the current gas price, about €6,500 heating costs. 200 kWh per sqm. I will now provocatively claim that every € spent on a new heating system is money thrown away (especially when exotic things like ice storage are mentioned), if nothing is optimized in the energy consumption of the house.

Hello Deliverer,

thank you for your assessment. As already mentioned above, unfortunately we do not have a huge garden. What is meant by WWWP?

The house was built in 1995. No energetic renovation has been done so far, so from an energy point of view, almost nothing has really been done for nearly 30 years. Is that a problem?
