For our property, a development cost contribution based on the size of the plot had already been charged, and then there was an additional payment based on the living area.

Sorry, but that sounds very unreasonable.
Now you have just finished planning your dream house, only to realize that it is 50 sqm too big for your budget...

I am extremely sure that with that budget you have to plan the house significantly smaller and still pay close attention to the costs.

First, see what you can and want to finance. And then get serious advice on what is possible and what is not. Only then do you start creating a floor plan. So normally

And please do not ask the bank about construction costs [die werden eher von euch eine detaillierte kostenplanung mit Unterschrift vom Architekt brauchen]

I have been reading here for about 3-4 years, often builders come with a desired amount and when you open their eyes they get rude or offended. I believe no one has ever made a summary about a successful build or, as far as I know, currently there is only one member left who built very cheaply and is still here.

We ourselves are at 1400 euros but contracts from 2014.

The members do not mean you any harm and in the numbers you will still find a spark of truth, maybe with a lot of discipline and own effort or even with [Schwarzarbeit] you manage to stay below the amounts mentioned here, but it won't be like the prices were 5-6 years ago.

At some point the bills come and you pay and pay as long as you get finished.

I think with the mentioned approach you are well advised for now. Are you actually a self-employed painter and varnisher? What does your wife/partner do for a living? I would also first talk to the bank, calmly, and then think about everything else. You have the plot of land, and that is already very good; that gives you more time to calmly think about everything, adjust the house, and above all, get quotes. Friends of ours live in Saarland and told me that the shortage of craftsmen is at least not as bad there as in many other regions. Maybe that will also benefit you (of course, this is just hearsay; I don’t know how realistic this assessment is). In any case, all this will take a while with the planning, the considerations, the discussions, the applications, and until the construction actually begins... that takes some time.
