Hello everyone,

I am relatively new to the topic of building and designing houses.

My current question is: what are the advantages and disadvantages of a house entrance with and without a hallway?

Specifically, the ground floor plan so far includes a large kitchen-living room, a staircase to the upper floor, and a guest toilet.

What are the pros and cons of having a hallway behind the house entrance?

So, do you enter a small hallway when entering the house, or do you enter the large kitchen-living room with an open entrance area right away?

Thank you very much for your help in advance.

Regards, R.

That's a matter of taste, I would say. I always like it best when there is a hallway where shoes can be put down and a coat rack is available. Then the dirt in autumn or winter is not directly in the living area. And as soon as the door is opened, the whole house is not immediately a showcase but only the hallway or the vestibule. But everyone has to decide that for themselves.

Because of shoes, dirt, wardrobe, etc., a house without a hallway would never be an option for me. Not to mention the soundproofing.

Just looked at our hallway and imagined this area as part of the living room

Also consider that if there is no hallway, the cold will immediately enter the living room or kitchen when the front door is opened in winter. With a hallway, you still have a certain buffer space that absorbs this. I can also tell you that I would not like a house without a hallway.

Moin Moin

We are currently living without a hallway. The apartment is in a 600m² glass house, so dirt and wind are not a problem; but the jackets just quickly get hung over the chair, the shoes between the door and the table. That is really annoying. I am deliberately planning differently in the new building.
