When you buy a house with propane gas, you don’t buy the supply contract along with it. That contract is canceled by the former owner and the new owner has to take care of it. When you buy a house with an oil heating system, the oil also becomes the property of the new owner.
And with liquefied gas, it should also be up to you whom you choose as a supplier. I find it surprising that the delivery price of €0.63/L is higher than the stated average (which you can find by googling online). Are you comparing gross prices with net prices somewhere?
And what does the contract say about the rented tank?
If the installment payment is €150, then it could also be that the consumption of the first owner is very high. Or rather, the consumption also depends on how big the house is, etc. And then I don’t find €150/€160 so high anymore. It’s more than an older terraced house or a new build, but still within reason and understandable.
I’m reading now that these numbers refer to the new contract. What kind of contract is that? One that is flexible? Those are expensive... or what consumption did you assume? I would get the annual bill from the previous owners and compare carefully.
I simply can’t imagine that they are comparatively much more expensive.
I am already comparing gross prices with gross prices. The contract that I am supposed to sign has a fixed price for 2 years. Regardless of the consumed amount, I pay €2.56/cbm. With (the first) supplier, I would get a price of 41,x cents per liter, which would be about €164-166/cbm. Additionally, the Primagas offer includes a monthly basic fee of almost €15.
For me, this is pure usury. Also, thanks for the tip regarding Stiftung Warentest. The invalid clause I mentioned in the initial post comes from an article referring exactly to this test. According to that, the previous owners might be able to terminate the contract free of charge.
We signed in the purchase contract that we take over all contracts concerning the house. However, there was no mention of a rented tank, but still I don’t want to hold the sellers liable for it since we otherwise received good conditions, and I would like to arrange it so that the sellers incur no costs.
Unfortunately, the employee responsible for us is on vacation...
