When I dealt with Riester pensions some time ago – when it was still very new – the general idea was: this is for people who wouldn’t be able to provide for their retirement without the subsidies. As soon as you no longer receive the subsidies, there are more attractive products that impose fewer requirements.

We were at an independent financial advisor today, who is doing an analysis and financing. This includes considering Kfw, annuity loans, and possibly a [Bausparvertrag]; he is actually not a fan of [Riester] due to some reasons. The property must not be rented out, taxation is unclear, etc. Let's wait and see what comes out of it.

I have definitely not received such an amount in allowances overall. [Wohnförderkonto] are not only the allowances, they are all payments max 2100.--/year

Everyone who works receives Riester subsidies, which are independent of income, and tax savings are added on top. The more you earn, the more you benefit. You are confusing this with the housing construction premium or something else.

Maybe, it was quite a few years ago, and I never dealt with it again. Basic message: Those who earn a lot have better options than Riester. Those who earn little might not have any options without Riester.
