Does a single man really need 180 sqm of living space??
Here, the older generation in rural areas is getting rid of their generously built houses. They also don't sell well anymore.
They are moving from the countryside to the city and downsizing massively. Mostly condominiums without gardens and suitable for old age.
Now it's fun, in 30 years it will be a burden
I find this objection very strange: a family of four apparently nowadays needs more than 180 sqm of living space. You read that here quite often... 170 sqm + basement... 240 sqm... fewer and fewer build under 150 sqm. The small single-family houses of nationwide home builders with 109 sqm or 113 sqm are hardly discussed here anymore. And now a single person comes along and claims SPACE for themselves!
It doesn't matter at all if these large properties have to be sold in 30 years, who lived there: an individual or a family. Big stays big. There is even the advantage with the single that the property is not worn out by several people.
That depends... on how the space is divided in the room layout. Several small rooms require much more maintenance effort than few large ones
When you look at many houses and apartments, everything is angled, cluttered, etc. I don't want to have that or clean that.
That's how I see it too. I have a different room layout than Bauexperte, but I also need open space and room. Even more so in the past: living in a 90 sqm new-build apartment as a single is very nice. Space for the Wii or exercise equipment without having to move a chair, that's comfort. One has children and lives more cramped, the other does not and can put more into their own living space.
