Hang down the ceiling because the window lintel is too large!?

Hello everyone, I hope you can help me with my design dilemma. We built the house 5 years ago. Unfortunately, while going through the plans, I missed that the windows (with roller shutters) are not big enough. The ceiling height with finished flooring is 2.56m. We have a wall height of 47cm above the windows. I am very unhappy with this. Consideration 1: Lower the ceiling. Consideration 2: Remove all windows, install a new lintel, and thus enlarge the windows. Do you have any other solution for my problem, because the room symmetry does not work for me at all. Many thanks Jasmin

To then treat yourself to an oppressively low ceiling like in an old building? Nonsense...

Is it about the whole house? So just €50k and more for your "feeling"? Nonsense or you have too much money.

How about working with colors to disguise the area above the windows?

Thank you for the answer. Too much money would be nice... it is primarily about the ground floor. We have already had two terrace doors converted to fixed glazing. This means that at least there is less frame. I would be very happy about color suggestions or anything that conceals the wall.

I can understand that you don’t like it. Higher windows with a smaller lintel would of course be nicer, but at that price I probably wouldn’t do it or would think about it very carefully. For us, it’s only 30cm, which also bothered me. On the windows with curtains, I have installed matching horizontal curtains that cover the lintel. I partially sewed them myself to match the curtains. They are also available ready-made but are usually rather old-fashioned. Alternatively, pleated blinds are possible, which you only close up to the upper edge of the window. When the lintel is covered, it already makes a big difference. In the kitchen, I have aluminum blinds that are always pulled up to the upper edge of the window. Also just for the look! I can provide pictures if desired.

Thank you. I would be happy to receive pictures.

If I really decide in a few years to have a complete renovation done. What needs to be done then? How do you register the connection? The entire facade needs to be redone, right?

- Remove windows - so that the reveals inside and outside can all be redone later - Remove lintel (support the wall while doing so) - Remove wall above - Create support for new lintel on the right and left in the walls (so later also re-plaster inside) - Adjust facade outside (brick, ETICS, plaster) - Reinstall windows - Restore everything nicely (reveals, facade, plaster inside) - Possibly redo electrical work to be able to connect new roller shutters (from switch to roller shutter) ==> really a huge effort. Certainly €5,000 per window (with craftsmen, in case of doubt four to five different craftsmen – demolition and lintel, window fitter, electrician, plasterer, painter…)
