Unfortunately, I'm not a design expert. I always paint colored walls with a white stripe at the top edge (just like the ceiling. That makes rooms appear, for example, taller.)
I can only recommend that you google color effects in rooms, or contact a painter.
Just found this quickly online (there are various sites).
Maybe you can also work with vertical or horizontal stripes/areas.
That would at least be my first choice, as it's easier to implement and much cheaper.

I would not attach the curtain rods to the ceiling, but above the windows. And then attach valances that extend beyond the upper edge of the windows.

Many thanks, at least a temporary solution is needed for the next few years. I can only advise everyone to look carefully!!! sooner or later, we will have the windows rebuilt. I have also thought about curtain rods... but I will not use a valance, that does not match the rest of the furnishings!

I don't see anything dramatic there now…. But I find the curtains very unfortunately placed… A white continuous stripe below the ceiling and the curtains opened differently.. that would already make a big difference..
