So if you have the space in the garden and the soil is suitable, I would rather recommend the ground source heat pump. (Unless you have to watch your money closely...)

Air heat is a bit more expensive in consumption, ground heat is better. But it's really difficult, you should probably read up a bit more about the advantages and disadvantages. Ground heat also has to be well executed, so it doesn’t lift your soil...

Which type of collector would it be? Trench collector? Surface collector?

It is a flat plate collector, to be more precise Nibe Compact Absorber, Compact Absorber consists of prefabricated polypropylene mats with integrated capillaries.

According to the offer, 120-160 sqm are required.

In this case, in my opinion, you should proportionally take the land price into account. You are limited in the use of the land on the area above the collectors. You should convert this limitation into a depreciation and add it to the above mentioned additional cost of 4000 euros. I would then take the air-water heat pump. Maybe invest the 4000 euros in insulation. Or keep it, or go on vacation.

If there were a lawn area, the collector wouldn't make a difference, right? Or playground equipment or something like that

We have built KFW 55 (LK NEW/WEN) with many floor-to-ceiling windows on the south side. Approximately 190 sqm of living space is heated with a ground-source heat pump from Buderus (400m of piping and a 200 m basket). At the moment, the heating is already in summer mode (room temperature constantly at 21°C only through solar radiation; shading with blinds if it gets too warm) and only switches on for hot water preparation. Current weekly electricity consumption is 20/30 KWh (peak/off-peak). I would absolutely not want to do anything differently and certainly no air heat pump.

For a lawn area, this does not matter - you are not restricted in the use, and there is no loss in value. Lawn is lawn. On the contrary: when selling a house with modern brine heat pump heating technology, you rather have an advantage. Investing 4000 euros in insulation? Certainly correct - but with 4000 euros you don’t get very far. For a prefabricated house, for example, definitely not. We have probes. If we had had the collector installed for warranty reasons (without own work), the collector would have cost about 4000 euros less than the probes. Therefore, we decided on the probes. Besides, we have a hillside property. We live in a cold climate region of Germany where there are longer and severe cold periods in winter. With just under 200 sqm of heated/partially heated area (KFW70) and a 4-person household, we consumed just over 2000 kWh in 2014 - including hot water and circulation pump. The consumption of roughly comparable air heat pumps in the neighborhood was significantly higher here. Maybe this serves somewhat as a point of reference...

If you live in a mild region and have a passive house, then the matter relativizes again.

Regards
