The advantage of dark roofs is that the solar thermal modules are not so unpleasantly noticeable.
The trend toward heat pumps also "fuels" the trend toward photovoltaic systems, and these simply fit better with dark roofs than with red ones.
Sure, it could fail to appear. Photovoltaics do indeed look better on a dark roof, but only the modules without bulky aluminum frames.
Now I wonder whether I should invest in the production of frameless red photovoltaic modules after all. They have about 15% less efficiency and cost a bit more to produce. Shades of red would not be easily adjustable, so one would have to see which roof tiles they could be made color-compatible with. Who has a red roof and some spare cash to join in?
