Glass roof over sleeping rooms, sounds of rain

Hello everyone,

I am currently planning a roof extension of a multi-family house to create a nice home there. Due to building regulations, part of the planned shed roof must be constructed in a post-and-beam structure made of glass. Background: the roof thickness in this area may only be 20 cm, so there remains enough clear room height given the maximum building height. This glass roof will then transition into the glass facade, like a conservatory. It is large-scale, certainly spanning the entire room width and about 2 meters deep.

The construction spans an entire side of the building, beneath which are all three bedrooms. Now I wonder whether a soundproof, heavy triple-glass configuration made of laminated safety glass (VSG) and tempered glass (TVG) is sufficient to reduce the sound of rain enough to be able to sleep there.

I know that loudness and the sound of rain are perceived as disturbing to varying degrees subjectively. Perhaps there are nevertheless opinions, experiences, or even real observations about this.

Thank you all!

You say it yourself... sensitive souls won't be able to sleep there when it rains. And that basically says it all, right?

Do the bedrooms have to be there necessarily? Darkening is then also an issue, right?

It reads as if there could be a great room, living room, or dining area there :)

A part of the unit may only have a height of 2.3 m from the top edge of the floor to the outer side of the roof. This is better accommodated in the planning in the area of the north part of the building. The bedrooms are also better accommodated in this part, which then has a clear room height of only 2 - 2.2 m underneath. Living/working/dining rooms should remain in the south, where the shed roof also becomes higher and thus the clear height is >2.4 m. Alternatively, I am still considering achieving the lowest possible roof construction height by using Aerogel insulation instead of glass.

Does it absolutely have to be a shed roof, or wouldn't a gable roof with a dormer be more practical?

How do you want to shade the greenhouse in summer? I can't imagine sleeping in the greenhouse to be very comfortable.
