Hello everyone,
my parents use an oil heating system that heats water and then distributes the warm water to regular radiators throughout the house.

The costs for the oil are about 2600 euros per year plus maintenance.

The question is how to reduce the costs for hot water preparation. I thought about the following: deep drilling in the garden and using a brine heat pump for hot water preparation so that the flow temperature is reduced. The whole thing would cost around 15000 euros, with 2 percent interest the annual interest cost would be 300 euros, which would be low. The question is how much would this measure bring, do you have any experience here and do you know if such a project is funded by the state?

Alternatively, the oil heating could be completely eliminated and the new pump could be used entirely for hot water.

I look forward to your answers and thank you in advance

... of course, everything is doable ... one should first consult one or more experts who examine everything on site and carry out planning and cost calculation ...

Hello VanTide,

so first of all, a quick note: I am not an expert in building services engineering. But since we are currently planning a new build, I have also dealt with this topic. So I believe your €15,000 will not be enough. Because the ground source drilling alone costs between €10,000 and €15,000, and you don’t have a heat pump yet. And then the entire investment just to save on hot water production will certainly not pay off, or only after many, many years.

For the complete conversion, you have the problem with the flow temperature for wall radiators. Although there are heat pumps for this purpose, they also come at a price. As an alternative, a solution that occurred to me spontaneously consists of an air source heat pump and a buffer tank for heating and hot water. The existing oil heating serves as a second heating medium to use the heat pump only when it is particularly economical. However, only an expert can calculate how long it will take for these investments to pay off if they know the exact conditions.

Best regards

Ronny
