Does anyone have experience with garages that have a door at the front and back? Is that an upgrade that a regular concrete garage manufacturer would also do, and what does something like that cost?

The background is that I have a larger trailer (6.20m long) that I wanted to park behind the garage. For that, we wanted to build a prefabricated garage with an attached carport so that the trailer can be pushed through the carport. The problem is that there is simply a bit too little space to swing in with a vehicle of this size to get into the carport (i.e., the neighbor must not build a fence), and going out the back past the house might work, but it’s not really ideal.

The simplest solution would, of course, be to build a carport and just drive through, which would also be the cheapest solution. But actually, I wanted a proper garage where snow doesn’t blow in and rain doesn’t fall in sideways, and where no marten can attack the car. That’s why the idea of simply installing a door at the back as well came up; since it would be used less often, it can also be manual.

A garage has a slope inside towards the water drainage. Make sure that the clearance height is smaller on one side at the same lintel height.

We have also planned that and it is not a problem. Since we will only rarely need the gate at the back, we have planned a cheap swing gate there without a drive. The ones we inquired all do that. Additional costs are manageable.

Concrete figures from a Rekers garage:

Additional opening (250x213 wxh) with Hörmann sectional door and manual opening: €1390

But beware: for our 7x7m garage, the door had to be planned with a 2-meter distance from the side wall for stability reasons. Manufacturers may vary, but if you want the opening on one side, ask specifically about the required distances. For us, this meant that the opening would overlap with the heat pump and therefore made no sense.

Good point. Drive-through height is always a tricky thing. Basically uncritical but involves work since I will probably have to retract the mast support at the front for a normally high garage. But well, you don’t drive through there that often anyway.

Today I also realized that I somehow need to get into the garage properly and since the carport is supposed to be next to it, either a wicket door in the rear gate or rear swing doors would be suitable. But none of that is something you can just click together in the configurator :/

think of the mini-excavator/wheel loader for pool or terrace construction, they do not fit through garage doors
