Garage size 6x6m or 6x7m? What is sensible?

As I said, we are building with a basement, so a lot probably also goes down into the basement

We have a basement too - but neither winter tires nor lawnmower, bicycles, and wheelbarrow belong there - simply too many stairs.

So, I personally find a garage for normal cars highly ridiculous. I don't know anyone who (where possible) doesn't just park in front of the house/ on the roadside because it's faster. Also, I am shocked at how many people seal the footprint of a decent single-family house to accommodate cars, skis, and camping tents. But I guess I'm an outsider there. I really find it astonishing how much space is lost because of that. Maybe OT.

No, we have two sturdy French ones - and simply a nice garage ...

No martens, no dirt in the rain, no hail, no ice scraping in winter, and no theft. Would NEVER park my cars outside.
