GALANT IKEA wall cabinet/sliding doors jam when opening/closing

Hello!

Today I assembled the galant wall cabinet with sliding doors. The problem is: The panels hardly slide at all. The front panel moves reasonably well, but the rear panel can only be moved with great effort, and I am not someone who can generate the necessary force for that. Besides, the panels look very unattractive afterwards.

Are the tracks simply cut too narrow for the glass doors, or does anyone know a trick to improve this? The Ikea display model worked much more smoothly, and this is unbearable in the long run.

Best regards, BlackCloud

Hello,
is it just as bad if the wardrobe is standing on the floor?

Hello,
I haven't tried that yet, I would first have to ask for help again. What would be the consequence if it suddenly works on the floor but not on the wall (which would be pretty annoying...)? I’m only asking because there is a massive desk under the Galant and a Detolf right next to it, so it's a bit of a hassle to take down the whole cabinet again for a test. Of course, I’m willing to do it, but I would like to know if this action would help and what I could do then. And thank you for taking on my problem!

Best regards,
BlackCloud

Hello, that would mean that the cabinet is slightly warped when it is hanging on the wall.

Makes sense. My brother should stop by again in two weeks, then we can take the cabinet down and see if the sliding doors slide better. I looked more closely again... the back wall seems to be a bit crooked because I can still see narrow gaps. But it's really only minimal and the rest is fine. And as I said, the outer pane slides quite ok (even better today than yesterday), only the inner pane causes extreme problems.

You can also first check with a caliper whether the grooves are differently wide. The glass thickness will probably hardly differ, but you can easily test that by placing the rear pane in front. Are the rails made of plastic? Then take a close look to see if there is a narrow spot because, for example, a wood splinter has gotten in there.
