Three people would already be happy about it. But no pressure.

Thank you, so precisely the fact that kids could still use the area on top to "chill" appeals to me a lot.

Yes, they are 2.40 and 25°.

Maybe a note about the galleries. They were intended as sleeping places for the boys (we have 3 of them) because the floor area of around 15 sqm and only 3.10 to 3.25 cm width is not easy to furnish. Square just works better, but with 4 bedrooms facing south that was not possible on the long, rather narrow plot. And we also aimed for equal treatment with the orientation.
The galleries were and are used very differently. Drums, Lego, library. Friends have at most slept there on a mattress. All my boys preferred to sleep downstairs because there is no window upstairs to look at the stars at night and they also like to sleep with the window open.
The standing height upstairs is a maximum of 2 meters. That is sometimes inconvenient when vacuuming or setting up and rearranging shelves.
I don’t know if I would do it that way again, even if it was always nice for the boys to have the additional completely enclosed space for themselves. I’m speaking in the past tense because my boys are already 20, 24, and 26 years old and no longer live with us permanently.

And very important. Plan the switch to turn the lamp on and off on the gallery properly. We could switch the light off downstairs from above, but not the other way around. That was annoying when you had to climb the ladder again.
I’m sure I can think of more pros and cons of the different ceiling heights. Just ask.

Not yet – but it would be my favorite combination. With the mentioned roof pitch, I find it unproblematic – except where the high side would have more height than the length of the long room side.

On the contrary... We had it open to the top: ERH 2 VG + 22 degree roof pitch The gables still had triangular windows at the top, both on the east and west. For us, both rooms were very pleasant. Both rooms had an overall width of about 6 meters. Other houses had the west side divided into two children's rooms: thus more high than wide (height in the gable 3.40), which was less cozy. But I have to say that I am very sensitive to that. Others might not perceive it at all that it is then "more high than wide."
