Then we have the new one - but to my knowledge it has been around for quite some time - the old version was really hideous.

That's called user error

It's like with lockable window handles, where people leave the keys on them...

Sure, but that's reality - so a code lock is kind of useless.

Humans are creatures of habit - you can see that with passwords on the PC or online. Without compulsion, the codes stay the same for years...

By the way, I don't want to exclude myself from that - also with the olives, although at least when I'm away for a longer time I remove them.

When we built it, there was only the old version, so that was out of the question... and as I already wrote above, for us transponder will eventually be primary and code secondary...

Is it then like with the newer cars, where you can only start the engine if you have the transponder in your pocket (or somewhere else with you)? And the code is for if you ever don't have a transponder, or in combination?

I wouldn't do without the normal key. I would only provide something like that as an additional opening method. Possibly via code at the side entrance. Or something like Danalock Smartlock. The lock is opened by smartphone.
