Hello, we have an old built-in refrigerator in the kitchen. Now we want to remove the refrigerator along with the built-in cabinet and use a stand-alone refrigerator in the niche. After removal, there is almost exactly 60 cm available. Question: will a stand-alone refrigerator with a width of 60 cm fit there including the door opening? Thanks and regards Ashley

Under certain circumstances, it may be necessary to place it in the gap so that the front protrudes slightly. One should look at the drawings on the manufacturer's websites regarding the door opening angle and distance.

It depends on the door opening mechanism. If you have a kitchen that is open to the living area, keep in mind that the stand-alone appliances are generally somewhat louder than the built-in appliances.

Just go to a technology store like MM and take a look at the door mechanisms of the refrigerators. Don’t forget the measuring tape!

For freestanding refrigerators, the door hinges are usually designed for both sides - so the door opening can be chosen as needed. And freestanding refrigerators can be somewhat smaller than built-in refrigerators; mine measures 547w x 558d mm. Depending on whether there are matching side panels for the kitchen, I would remove the old refrigerator cabinet at the same time. That looks nicer. And a freestanding refrigerator also uses less electricity because heat dissipation is better.

That's exactly what he wants, to remove the old built-in cabinet. But since there are cabinets on the right and left, one has to pay attention to the opening mechanism of the stand-alone.
