That was probably called the laundry room back then? Nevertheless: things worked very differently back then. It was not only a different time, it is a At least today in 2022. The residential area doesn’t appear to have an agricultural structure, and no dog was mentioned either. And I remind you that not even a tub is used, so tough dirt on children that you have to soak doesn’t seem to matter either. :)

That was always called a mud room, or as my grandmother said, a boot room. This is still common in new constructions in the USA, usually with the access way from the garage. But it is also because entrance halls or large foyers, where clothes and shoes are stored, are less common. The idea of having dirty things in the living area is strange there. With Pinterest and hgtv, this is now coming over here as inspiration.

That’s exactly what I always wonder when I watch such shows. The front door often leads directly into the living area. Where do people leave their jackets and shoes? How does that work in everyday life? But maybe this is off-topic here. I have been really curious about it for a long time...

Well, the front door is probably like it used to be with us often, only for the priest and the mayor. Everything else went into the house through other doors.

I don’t think the entrance area/wardrobe is well designed. Where do the jackets, shoes, school bags, MaxiCosi, strollers go in winter? Where do you want to help the children put on their shoes, etc.?

In the kitchen, I would miss the workspace. Living/dining/cooking feels tight to me. The playroom doesn’t work – at least I have never experienced it working.

Where should the laundry be done? Surely not in the room with shoes, sand, and dirt. Sand cannot be avoided anyway. What do you think, how often will you have to wash hair if hair washing is done after playing with sand? Storage space is missing. Especially if two more children come. Clothes, toys, vehicle fleet, strollers, etc. are all kept, plus Christmas decorations, etc.

A bathtub is missing. Ever had kids soaked in the autumn mud or thawed out after sledding? In the competition of who gets the dirtiest, even underwear does not stay mud-free. This Ikea setup won’t last long. Besides, eventually, you want to get into the tub yourself. Warm baths can do good.

Air space is gone. Your house will be loud. You don’t want to facilitate sound transmission any further.

In closets? … ;) This is mentioned in almost every floor plan discussion.
