My ideas, maybe there is something you like:
- Swap the upstairs bedroom and children's room, in my opinion this is an advantage for both rooms.
- Regarding the garage, I agree as well. It would be much nicer for the kitchen not to have a garage in the west direction, but rather have windows overlooking a nice herb garden or something similar. I would rather invest the cost of the shaded terrace in good shading/roofing of the main terrace, there are now many options for that.
- The kitchen could really use more tall cabinets. I would probably forgo a sliding door between the hallway and kitchen and instead place a kitchen cabinet wall with a hidden door to the hallway from the kitchen side.
- I don’t really think the pantry is worth it. You would have more storage space if you used the area for normal tall cabinets, both on the kitchen side and of course also on the hallway side. Given the size of the floor plan, I would probably even plan completely differently with a large cooking island and a large kitchen cabinet wall with a hidden door and behind it a second kitchen with additional shelves. That wouldn’t necessarily require more space either (I attached a small sketch).
- Changing the staircase would of course throw the whole floor plan overboard, but I am always a fan of the staircase not being directly in the dirty area of the entrance. That way you don’t have to mop so much to prevent all the dirt from getting on your feet and being carried through the house. I think it’s a matter of taste, but it doesn’t hurt to at least consider it.
- The children’s rooms as well as the dining and living rooms seem almost too large to me, but ultimately it’s a question of budget whether you want to indulge yourself. And of course the priorities. The sightline from the entrance to the garden is of course very nice. The sofa is almost too far from the TV for me, but of course that can be compensated with an appropriate size.
