The measurements were only meant as a guide to develop a sense of scale. Please excuse us if the many lines cause any confusion. There are no special reasons for the spatial separation (children in the basement). We wanted to use the living space in the basement as efficiently as possible. With large windows in the basement level, we see no problems using these as rooms. If you look around among friends or acquaintances, many (children's) rooms also face the north side. The bathroom in the basement without a window cannot be avoided – but that is the case with every house that has a bathroom in the basement, isn’t it? Vicky Pedia previously mentioned that she built a similar house and everyone is happy. So I assume that the children's rooms are also in the basement there. Where are your differences compared to our floor plans? Would you do anything differently in hindsight?

I mostly had my room in the basement at my parents' house (though it was also level with the garden due to the slope) facing north, with the balcony right above it. It was nice and cool in the summer and I preferred it to the past few years in the attic (even though I love summer). So it doesn’t have to be a no-go.

And where is the argument in this comparison?

Yes, of course you can avoid that.

No, that is why you design a house so that it doesn’t happen.

You wanted to hear opinions and you even get some expertise.
How you want to build is up to you.

No, our bathroom in the basement has a window, and so does the one in our [Einliegerwohnung] at my parents' place.
A bedroom in the basement is okay; when I think about my old apartment with a north-facing direction, it was somewhat darker.
A children's room, if they are not teenagers, should never be too far away from the parents.

Upstairs on the parent floor, there are still a study and a nursery, so plenty of options for the big shuffle. Everyone can sleep on one level for now, and if the teens eventually prefer to live far away from their ancestors, you just switch.

Because of the irregular shape, it will probably be relatively expensive?
The budget question is important, after all, most people have one, and floor plans that suddenly cost twice as much as possible are rarely discussed.

An interesting project. Is the client still interested in participating in the discussion? I would find a site plan, development plan, or aerial photo of the property with details of the building envelope quite interesting. Perhaps more could be achieved if these essential basic informations were provided to us...
