Hello everyone,

we are currently planning a parking space (including bicycle, trash bin, and small shed) and a garden house with "storage" and "room" for the children:

Do you think this makes sense? There are four of us.

Looking forward to your tips.

1 car? and how on the property. both look good so far. more important is the position on the property (including the possibilities). it's not entirely clear to me what the left room at the shed is supposed to be. a seating area? for what?

if the driveway is wide enough for two vehicles (and these are also present), then a carport for 2 vehicles (~6 meters) would probably make more sense. the thing with the bicycles and trash bins looks good, but requires a lot of supports (every corner needs a support, since this thing can’t possibly float in the air). do you really want an open concept for the bicycles? winter? theft protection? wouldn’t parking them in a lockable shed make more sense?

regarding the shed: the storage shelves in the right shed are either for one row of preserving jars or not to scale. 1.8 meters width is not much if a proper cabinet/shelf goes on both sides. count on at least! 40 cm depth per side, 60 cm for the cabinet as a "kitchen". that leaves only 60 cm in the middle, which is nothing. one idea would be to have 60 cm on one side and then an L-shape. on the back side, only hang slim things on the wall (e.g., rake, broom, etc.)

Thank you for the feedback. We only have one car and the driveway is borderline wide enough for two at 5 m. It is certainly possible to drive past each other, but parking side by side is not possible. In front of the carport there is still about 6.5 m * 5 m of space where a second car could possibly be parked (and the other could then drive past). With the bicycles, I have experienced that no one really puts them in the shed, but just "throws them somewhere." The shelves are 36 cm deep and to scale (we still have them from Ikea) – which would mean a compromise of just over one meter. That is only for storing garden tools and maybe some tools or so. The small room is the playhouse for the children. Regarding the position: the carport is at the front on the driveway (5 m * ~30 m) – there, 12.5 m * 5 m were paved from the street and the garden house is at the back of the garden.

looks "then" quite well thought out. maybe check again where the weather side is, so that with the relatively small carport in the end the covered area is not useless, because snow and co will cover the entire area with snow/rain.

ps: how can you manage with 2 kids and at least 1 full-time worker + 1 part-time or similar worker with 1 car?! or are you financing the house completely on your own?! I always wonder how people actually do it. as an engineer, I don’t get over 3k net. and even if I did, that would never be enough
just asking because you’re planning for only 1 car. strangely enough many people do that and then park the 2 cars on the street (neighbors) or one behind the other, constantly bothering each other.

how do you want to build carport/shed? kit, hardware store, timber construction company, DIY? we are getting our carport installed by the timber construction company this Thursday. it will be 6x9 meters (3.5x6 meter shed with 2x utility room plastic door) + 3x3.5 meter covered terrace in one piece.

I am not dependent on a car for work
Let's see - [Bausatz] or [Baumarkt] will be hard to get something like that - we have an appointment with a carpenter tomorrow.

Send a PM to .

He is also from Lower Saxony and has good contact with a carport builder. He recently sent me his offer via PM. In my region, one would in my opinion pay about 3-5 thousand euros more for (the offers I have received so far). He can surely include you in our conversation. is currently reporting on the construction progress of his carport.
