Nevertheless, with a semi-detached house, the neighbor's terrace is usually much closer to your own window than with a detached single-family house. (please don’t bring up any exotic examples where it is exactly the opposite – the emphasis is on usually). And I know what I’m talking about. For years, I had neighbors in a semi-detached house who thought it was normal to light up their huge rotisserie grill EVERY summer evening and have guests on the terrace every other evening. That’s not an exaggeration.

We all roughly know how sound propagates. It makes a huge difference whether the neighbor’s terrace is 5m or 15m away from the bedroom window.

Being close to neighbors can also be great! There are many who can’t imagine anything better than a mid-terrace house. Always a chat with the neighbors on the left and right on the terrace. I can understand that. But please don’t portray this nonsense as if there were basically no difference whether you have a terraced house, a semi-detached house, or a detached single-family house.

Ay ay, Sir! I wouldn’t know that I dismissed anything as “nonsense”… I remember that the OP or someone else I replied to excluded noise in the case of a single-family house. Ay, Ay. Sir! I have never used exotic examples – they don’t fit ;) I’m in a terraced/end-terraced house Yes, Sir… do you actually talk like this at home? Sound! Yes, sound, very special! It also passes through houses on the other side of the street. The neighbor across the street is always audible with us, there was a gap between buildings in the end-terraced house, as well as in the single-family home. Otherwise, there are all kinds of neighbors: we already thoroughly discussed this topic (not exotic) last summer: some shout and scream at each other, others speak calmly to each other, as long as they move outdoors. I think a bit of exotic flavor just slipped onto the neighbor’s grill here :D

sorry. The statements were not all related to you. I am also somewhat biased in the discussion because I recently had a similar one. The discussion tended to be that it practically doesn't make a difference whether you live in a terraced house, a semi-detached house, or a detached single-family house. After all, you have neighbors everywhere. You never know beforehand. Human contact is inherently something good. But in the order mentioned above, the importance of getting along well with neighbors decreases. In other words: I think the advice is correct and important to introduce yourself to your future semi-detached house neighbor and get an impression. You are simply much closer together. You practically share the front yard. The terraces usually adjoin each other directly. Living together is simply closer than in a detached house. (Even there, you should of course introduce yourself to the neighbors beforehand)

That's what you mean. I agree with you! I briefly flipped through: there was the question about knowing the neighbor and getting on one's nerves. That's what you're probably referring to? I interpreted the statements differently. Based on my own experiences and those of friends, acquaintances, and hearsay, I now consider close contact during vacations and living as the same: too much friendship is burdensome, a close and well-maintained acquaintance with respectful distance or interaction and occasional casual meetings are good. Always also reflect on oneself. Noise from farther away can be just as or even more annoying than small talk next door – it also always depends on my own mood or what I’m doing in the garden. In this respect, I do not necessarily find semi-detached houses worth mentioning negatively regarding neighbors.
